OUR STORY

Blacksburg Battles Cancer began as an avenue for the Women’s Golf Association at Blacksburg Country Club to honor Ellen Hartman, a former member and avid golfer, who lost her battle with cancer. The inaugural event, a Susan G. Komen golf tournament, raised $23,376. With the success of this inaugural event, our group felt they could do more – and reach more people! Cancer is not limited to women; it impacts the lives of so many, whether directly or indirectly.

Since its inception, Blacksburg Battles Cancer has steadily increased the amount of funds raised. In 2023, we raised more than $60,000 bringing the cumulative efforts to nearly $360,000. What started with an annual golf tournament continues to grow and add ways to donate. We strive to be recognized as a New River Valley charitable foundation. In addition to the golf tournament, Blacksburg Battles Cancer now partners with a local jazz ensemble to host an annual Jazz Fest, with a percentage of the proceeds given to our organization. As we grow in the New River Valley, our goal is to add events in hopes of raising awareness and to help more individuals and their families.

There are numerous ways to get involved! Blacksburg Battles Cancer has been incredibly fortunate to have generous sponsors over these 10 years. Many support us by participating in the annual golf tournament, with the entry fee as a contribution. Others support our events with sponsorships at varying levels including signage, equipment, goods, meals, or drinks. You may choose to honor or memorialize a loved one with a donation. Every dollar counts!

The BCC Charitable Foundation is dedicated to raising funds for cancer-focused, non-profit organizations that serve the local community. These organizations shall engage in research to prevent, treat, or cure cancer and/or provide supportive services to cancer patients and their families.

During the past 11 years (2013-2023), approximately $360,000 has been raised for cancer charities

We hope you will join us for as many Blacksburg Battles Cancer events as you can!
